Cutting a hole in your model can be very useful for creating openings for screws, bolts, or other fasteners, reducing your model’s weight, or creating pass-throughs for things like wires and cables. But how do you do it in PrusaSlicer? I wrote this article to take you through the whole process.

To cut a hole in PrusaSlicer, you need to import your 3D model into PrusaSlicer and scale it up or down. Then, add a modifier and scale it to the hole size you’d like to cut. Position the modifier where the hole should be in your model, change the infill, layers, and perimeters to 0, and slice.

This is just a basic explanation. I will go into more detail in the article, so keep reading to find out more.

How to Cut a Hole in PrusaSlicer

Below is a step-by-step procedure for cutting a hole through your 3D model in PrusaSlicer:

  1. Import your 3D model into PrusaSlicer
  2. Scale it up or down
  3. Add a modifier to your workplane
  4. Scale it to the size of your desired hole
  5. Position it where the hole should be on your 3D model
  6. Change the Infill, Layer, and Perimeter settings to 0
  7. Slice your 3D Model

1. Import your 3D Model into PrusaSlicer

First, import your 3D model into PrusaSlicer by going to File > Import > Import > Import STL/3MF/STEP/OBJ/AMF.

2. Scale it Up or Down

After importing your 3D model, you can resize it according to your preference. Click the “Scale” tool and then drag the tiny boxes on your 3D model to increase or decrease its size.

3. Add a Modifier to Your Workplane

You’ll need to add a modifier that you will use to cut the hole in your 3D model. To do this, right-click your 3D model, select “Add Modifier”, and choose Box, Cylinder, Sphere, or Slab. If you want to cut a cylindrical hole, select “Cylinder.”

4. Scale it to the Size of Your Desired Hole

Once the modifier has loaded onto your workplane, scale it to the size of the hole you want to cut in your 3D model. You can do this using the Scale tool, as I explained above.

If you want a hole that will cut through the entire width of the model, ensure the height of your “Modifier” cylinder is more than the width of your 3D model.

5. Position it Where You Want the Hole to be on Your 3D Model

Move the cylinder to the position you want the hole in your 3D model.

6. Change the Infill, Layer, and Perimeter Settings to 0

Next, change the Infill, Layer, and Perimeter settings to 0 so the modifier can cut a hole through your 3D model. To do this, right-click the cylinder and select infill. Under the Print Settings panel, change the Fill Density to 0.
